From The President
Dear Auxiliary Sisters, It feels like June went by in just a blink of an eye. I would like to thank Commander Mike and the Post members who were there to help the Auxiliary during the past year. I look forward to working with Commander Dick and the Post members during 2010-2011. Of course, that also goes for my Auxiliary Sisters. Department Convention was held in Bloomington on June 17th-20th. I am happy to report that we received some awards. At the Joint Awards ceremony the Post and Auxiliary received 1st place for “Post Publications Contest-Large Posts (750 and over).” Terry Pieper and I accepted the plaque. At the Auxiliary awards ceremony we received National certificates for National Military Services and for Health and Happiness Special Award (for exceeding the quota for the VFW National Home for Children). On the Department level we received certificates for: Cancelled Stamp Program; Outstanding Hospital Program; MN Soldier Scholarship; Marcella Arnold Scholarship; POW-MIA Program (outstanding performance); Patriot’s Pen (Category 5 - 3rd Place); Veterans & Family Support Program; Veterans & Family Support (Category 5 - 2nd Place for most creative fund raising for National Military Service); Veterans & Family Support (Category 5 - for most significant donation to Health & Happiness); Veterans & Family Support (Category 5 - 2nd Place for Best Decorative use of Buddy Poppies). We also received $14.00 in Award money. I also received an award. I was named as an “Outstanding Auxiliary President” 2010 and received a medallion. It was definitely a “WOW” moment. Bingo at the Hastings Veterans Home was held on June 17th. As usual, the participants had a good time, made a little spending money and enjoyed the ice cream and cookies. Our next bingo night will be July 15th. We leave the Post approximately 6:30 p.m. We will sponsor Cracker Barrel at the Minneapolis Veterans Home on July 28th. The residents really enjoy the sandwiches and cakes - especially the pretty cakes. We will leave the Post at 6:15 p.m. I attended the Volunteer recognition luncheon on June 11th along with two Post members. Mark your calendar for July 7th. In celebration and recognition of the Gallagher Hansen Post 295 and Ladies Auxiliary’s 90th Anniversary, the City of South St. Paul cordially invites all members of the Post 295 and Ladies Auxiliary to be guests of honor at the July 7th Sounds of South St. Paul Summer Concert. The concert is at the Central Square Community Center’s Amphitheater at 6:30 p.m. Thanks to everyone who attended or participated in the Memorial Day parade and service. August 1 will be here before you know it. That’s the date for the Annual Kid’s Picnic at Lorraine Park from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Enjoy a day of fun, food and fellowship. Membership: We are starting to collect membership dues for 2010-2011. It’s a good time to become a Life Member. Send your dues to Nance Regep, 2021 Eva Lane, So. St. Paul, MN 55075. Be sure to notify Nance if you have a change of address so we can update our records and you will continue to receive your newsletter and other Auxiliary mailings. Safe Kids Camp will be held on August 10th - 12th. More information next month. Our next monthly Auxiliary meeting will be on Wednesday, July 14th at 7:00 p.m. We will continue to collect cancelled stamps and Campbell’s labels. Leave them at the Post and I will get them to the program Chairman. I wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July. In closing, I congratulate those celebrating a birthday or anniversary. I wish a speedy recovery if you are injured or ill. I offer my deepest sympathy if you have lost a loved one
Loyally yours, Barb Meyer, Auxiliary President
