From The President Dear Auxiliary Sisters, Spring is almost here. According to my calendar spring begins on March 20th. Weather wise - I’m sure Spring will begin at a later date. But, either way, winter is almost over. The 2nd District meeting will be held on Saturday, March 13th in Hutchinson. The joint meeting will be at 12:30 pm followed by our meeting at 1:00 pm. A lunch will be served from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm at the Post home. The cost is $7.00. The meeting will be held at the McLeod County Fairground offices at 810 century Ave. SW. The Ladies Auxiliary fish fries are well underway. Every week we get busier and that is a good thing. But, it also means that we need more volunteer help. We could use more help breading fish on Friday morning, starting at 6:00 am. We also need help on Fridays for the lunch shift in both the kitchen and dining room. Please help us out if you are able. We held a bake sale from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, February 19th. We made $41.10, which will go to Cancer Aid and Research. Thank you to everyone who donated or purchased items. Also to Marie, Danette and Amanda for coordinating the set-up and sales at the last minute due to an emergency in Ann’s family. We will have another bake sale on March 19th - 11:00-1:00, also for Cancer Aid. Once again - donations of baked goods will be greatly appreciated. The 34th Annual Legislative Day at the State Capitol will be held in the Great Hall on March 23rd from 8:30 to noon. Legislators, the Commissioner of Veterans Affairs and Deputy Commissioner of Veterans Health Care have all been invited. This is a great opportunity to listen, learn, ask questions and state your concerns. Please try to attend. I would really like to see a larger turnout from our Post and Auxiliary than we had last year. Thank you to everyone who brought in cancelled stamps, Campbell’s labels and product coupons. We will continue to collect these items and get them sent to the proper person or place. You are helping to support both the Hospital, Veterans and Family support programs. Membership- thanks to everyone who has paid their 2010 membership dues. The response has been great, Please notify Nance Regep, 2021 Eva Lane, So. St. Paul, MN 55075 if you have a change of address. Your Auxiliary records (local, Dept. National) need to be updated so you will continue to receive Auxiliary information. February 18th we sponsored bingo at the Hastings Veterans Home. There were 48 participants. The last bingo game is always a coverall and there were 4 winners that night. Our next bingo night will be on Thursday, March 18th. We will leave the Post at 6:30 pm. Our next Cracker Barrel at the Minneapolis Veterans Home will be on Wednesday, March 31st. We will leave the Post at 6:30 pm. Our Auxiliary recently received a National Military Services Award, in recognition of our generous contribution to National Military Services 2009-2010. Have you noticed the yellow ribbons tied to trees near the Post, City Hall and on Marie Avenue and on Southview Blvd.? On February 1, 2010 the So. St. Paul City Council adopted Resolution #2010-22 fully supporting the Community of So. St. Paul in becoming a Yellow Ribbon Community. The MN National Guard has pioneered a program which empowers communities to build an enduring network of support for service members and families throughout the deployment cycle. Commander Mike and I have attended several meetings in the process to become a Yellow Ribbon Community. Two of our Auxiliary sisters, Mary Paczosa and Norma Erdman, passed away in February. Last month we sent out a total of 480 Valentine cards. They went to the Hasting and Minneapolis Veterans Homes, the VA Medical Center and to deployed service personnel to share. There are two scholarships available thru the Department of Minnesota Auxiliary. They are the Marcella Arnold Nursing Scholarship and the Minnesota Soldier Scholarship. Applications are due to the Dept. Chairman by April 1. In closing, I congratulate those celebrating a birthday or anniversary. I wish a speedy recovery if you are injured or ill. I offer my deepest sympathy if you have lost a loved one.
Loyally yours, Barb Meyer, Auxiliary President
